What happens when the Analog television is Shut Off in 2009?

I am getting bad reception. Why is that?
If you are receiving TV 33 off the air with an antenna, it is important that the antenna and its lead in cable be in first class condition. A bad connection anywhere in the path from the antenna to the set can cause poor signal quality.

If you are receiving TV 33 via the cable, then its important to understand that at this time all cable companies receive TV 33 off the air with an antenna. If due to atmospheric conditions the cable company receives a poor signal then they simply pass it on. Then aside from that, any problem with one of the hundreds of amplifiers used by the cable company to deliver the signal can cause poor signal quality and it can occur only on one channel.

In the spring and fall sometimes the atmospheric conditions will allow the signal of a same channel station to be received on top of WHBR. This is called co-channel interference and the picture you see will have horizontal black lines throughout. And in severe cases the other tv channel can swamp the local signal and you will lose WHBR altogether. The problem usually lasts for just a few hours and then as the earth is warmed by the sun, the atmosphere will change to allow normal reception.

At this time we do not have generators at either the studio in Pensacola, Fl., or the transmitter site in Robertsdale, Al. So when storms cause an electric power outage WHBR is off until power is restored. If the screen is black it means the studio is off, if the screen is snow, the transmitter is off.

Since all cable companies, at this time, receive our signal from an antenna then any outage will affect all viewers.

What happens when the Analog television is Shut Off in 2009?
The FCC has decreed that a new form of television called Digital would be implemented. The digital signal is created in binary form as the signal inside of a computer. There is nothing compatible between the current analog signal processing and receiving and the digital signal. Therefore a digital receiving device must be used in order to produce a picture on an analog television set. The device may be a digital tuner, cable set-top box or a satellite receiver. Once, one of these devices process the digital signal then it can be viewed on analog television. The FCC has mandated that on February, 2009 all analog transmitters be turned off. If you are viewing Cable or Satellite television you will not know it because they will be using the digital signal that each television station broadcasts. If you are watching over the air using an antenna, then you will have to procure a digital tuner, which co-incidentally the FCC is making provisions to help viewers pay for the device. Currently almost all the television stations broadcast analog and digital signals, with some cable systems using the analog signal and some are now beginning to switch over and use the digital signal.
